In Karate, all the limbs of the body are used to perform fast movements involving kicks, punches, and blocks, while maintaining a proper posture and balance. It requires agility, flexibility, speed, endurance, strength, and concentration. This is not something that will come to you easily within a few weeks, and as I have written before, this is a lifelong walk on the path of Karate.
Self-esteem and self-confidence
Self-esteem and self-confidence are two concepts that are very similar to one another. However, there is a big difference, self-esteem can be described as inside, and self-confidence is the outside of yourself.
Self-confidence is the part that other people see, when they look at you, you have a “yes attitude”. Nevertheless, you may feel bad inside, and your mental state is out of balance.
But what does all this have to do with Karate? Reel Karate is about self-defence and is built on the philosophy that systems and techniques must be adapted to the individual. After a while you will see, that self-defence Karate gives you a positive development.
To build a strong sense of self-esteem, and the confidence that develops from it, aim to develop good habits and may break bad ones.
Initially, Karate was not sportskarate, but self-defence Karate, which was used to defend yourself against assaults.
Self-defence is defined as a martial art and should not be confused with sportskarate. In sportskarate, competitions are held, with very strict rules on what one must and must not do, this does not apply to self-defence Karate.
Teachings in self-defence Karate are based on martial arts techniques as well as natural response patterns.
As a starting point, no competitions, championships, or the like are held in self-defence Karate, as this would compromise the self-defence part of it. Nevertheless, there is always someone who wants to test their skills in a “real” battle. This is most often the case for young people, and there is nothing wrong with that. I have been there myself.
